Student Success Statement

''I have been asked what I mean by 'word of honor'. I will tell you: Place me behind prison walls- walls of stone ever so high, every so thick, reaching ever so far into the ground- there is a possibility that in some way or another I might be able to escape; but stand me on the floor and draw a chalk line around me and have me give my word of honor never to cross it. Can I get out of that circle? No, never! I'd die first.'' - Karl G. Maeser

I think this quote is very noble. It speaks of good character. The quality it takes is of the ultimate trust and loyalty. Yet, I can't help but disagree at its exaggeration. Trust and loyalty can only go so far and do so much. While it is true, having those qualities and being true to your word is incredible, it can not be the only action. For example, to die out of a promise seems extreme. There are many ways to fufill a promise and be a trustworthy person. Dying should not be considered. Staying true is one thing, but to what length?

STUDENT SUCCESS STATEMENT

'' I hated poverty. Poverty is more of a choice than anything else, and I can change that (poverty). It depends upon how hard I want to work, and I decided that I would change it.'' - Dr. Ben Carson I do not really agree with this statement. While it mat be true that poverty can eventually be overcome, many out there do work hard and give it their all at what they do yet they still do not escape. There are two ways to work hard at something. Sometimes you get what you want, other times things remain the same. This quote can not always be held true. There is a key element that breaks this from being true, education. You can work hard all you want but not go far because of lack of an education. Without education your efforts will mean nothing. ''They're only truly great who are truly good.'' - George Chapman You can define greatness if you first act out of good. In order to be good you must put others before you. The real greatness is not strength or reputation, it is the good acts committed. You can not be great if you are living with a soul purpose to wreck havoc and spread a negative mood.  For example, you cannot be great by bullying someone. Bullying is not a positive act. It is not a tolerable act in the eyes of good will. Greatness comes to those who are selfless and whom to not have a rotten heart. You cannot be greedy and selfish and attain greatness all at once. Where there is anything but pureness and good, there will never be an ounce of great.
