Student Success Statement

''I have been asked what I mean by 'word of honor'. I will tell you: Place me behind prison walls- walls of stone ever so high, every so thick, reaching ever so far into the ground- there is a possibility that in some way or another I might be able to escape; but stand me on the floor and draw a chalk line around me and have me give my word of honor never to cross it. Can I get out of that circle? No, never! I'd die first.'' - Karl G. Maeser

I think this quote is very noble. It speaks of good character. The quality it takes is of the ultimate trust and loyalty. Yet, I can't help but disagree at its exaggeration. Trust and loyalty can only go so far and do so much. While it is true, having those qualities and being true to your word is incredible, it can not be the only action. For example, to die out of a promise seems extreme. There are many ways to fufill a promise and be a trustworthy person. Dying should not be considered. Staying true is one thing, but to what length?

If I do the right thing right, I'm going to suceed.'' - Dan Dierdorf I agree with this quote. If you choose to do something right and put your effort into it, them you are bound to suceed. Putting in maximum effort into something can impact ones chances in suceeding. Everything does actually come together. When effort and a proper choice go hand in hand, there is no other way. Certified success can only come from a good choice. If the opposite were to be said, results would not be as promising. When your heart is in the right place and your choices reflect on it, then the option was a clear one made. If you choose right, you gain right. Pursue greatness by being great and truth will go your way.

'' Only those who live who do good.'' - Count Leo Tolstoy This quote is agreeable. If you live your life off of bad acts, then you have not lived. A life well spent is a life full of good. Without any good in ones life, they would be miserable. You must realize the importance of making the right choices in your life. Every time you choose wrong, your life looses its meaning and purpose. Do not let your life waste away. For example, if someone has been a bad person and done terrible things all their life, then they really did not live. Living is about what you make out of it when good is involved. If someone has chosen the right path and has made the right decisions, then they lived a life of prosperity and welcoming. Live a life of good. A life without good is a life well wasted. Always do good at every chance you get. Train yourself to be better.
