STUDENT SUCCESS STATEMENT

'' I hated poverty. Poverty is more of a choice than anything else, and I can change that (poverty). It depends upon how hard I want to work, and I decided that I would change it.'' - Dr. Ben Carson

I do not really agree with this statement. While it mat be true that poverty can eventually be overcome, many out there do work hard and give it their all at what they do yet they still do not escape. There are two ways to work hard at something. Sometimes you get what you want, other times things remain the same. This quote can not always be held true. There is a key element that breaks this from being true, education. You can work hard all you want but not go far because of lack of an education. Without education your efforts will mean nothing. Education can be in many forms. Education is the real key to success, without it efforts will not do much good. At times poverty is not a choice, lack of education will forever hold a family down. While some may be lucky to move on and gain success, there are others still who remain stuck. Effort, education, persistence, all you need to truly overcome poverty and many other obstacles one may face. You can always change something if you put your mind to it. Poverty is not always a choice.

Student Success Statement

''The reward for doing right is mostly an internal phenomenon: self-respect, dignity, (self-worth), integrity, and self-esteem.'' - Dr. Laura Shlessinger This quote is true. Usually when doing something that is right you never really get a physical reward. The satisfaction is internal since you yourself commited the act. At times there might not be any witnesses. Physical recognition comes for other reasons. When you acknowledge those factors, right truly will feel like a phenomenon. The feeling you get when doing right is like no other. That is the only feeling apart from all others. That sense of well being will not be caused by any thing else. Reward over moral is a great prize.

''I have been asked what I mean by 'word of honor'. I will tell you: Place me behind prison walls- walls of stone ever so high, every so thick, reaching ever so far into the ground- there is a possibility that in some way or another I might be able to escape; but stand me on the floor and draw a chalk line around me and have me give my word of honor never to cross it. Can I get out of that circle? No, never! I'd die first.'' - Karl G. Maeser I think this quote is very noble. It speaks of good character. The quality it takes is of the ultimate trust and loyalty. Yet, I can't help but disagree at its exaggeration. Trust and loyalty can only go so far and do so much. While it is true, having those qualities and being true to your word is incredible, it can not be the only action. For example, to die out of a promise seems extreme. There are many ways to fufill a promise and be a trustworthy person. Dying should not be considered. Staying true is one thin...
